“I’ll put a girdle round about the earth in forty minutes.”

Puck, Act II, Scene i

Forty milliseconds will do.

Puck opens a 5,000-line diff in 37 ms. It’s a Git client for GitHub on Windows and Linux, written in Rust and drawn on your graphics card. Free.

Uranus with Puck and Oberon. Orbital periods to scale.

It looks like an instrument because it is one.

Puck keeps the numbers in view. The status bar times every refresh, the sync control counts what you’re ahead and behind, and the history lists commits by their hashes, set in mono so they line up.

Puck’s Changes view: a repository with four changed files and a diff of src/cli.rs, two lines removed and three added

Scroll sideways to see the whole window.

  1. The status bar times each refresh of your working tree. This one took 24 ms.
  2. Ctrl K opens a palette that reaches every command, repository, branch and file.
  3. Click a line number to take that one line into the commit and leave the rest.

It leaves your machine to you.

Most of the windows on a developer’s screen are web browsers in disguise. OBERON builds the other kind.

We write native desktop software in Rust, draw it on the GPU, and publish what it costs your machine. Puck is the first. Why we’re called OBERON.

Everything in reach of a shortcut.

Every view sits one key away, and every shortcut you learned in GitHub Desktop still works.

“I go, I go; look how I go, swifter than arrow from the Tartar’s bow.”
